Basson Gear. A music equipment store in California, located between San Diego and Los Angeles. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, not really available for the general public. But thanks to my great friends, that have been nice enough to kind of take me under their wings in many ways, I was able to visit, for which I am forever grateful. Basson Gear has some of the coolest sound equipment on the market, and a lot of musicians use their gear during live performances. Also, check out the Basson Gear website. In the picture, you see me with the shop owner.

In 1981, Motley Crue was still managed by Coffman and Coffman. Nikki Sixx was close friends to Alan Coffman’s right-hand man, Michael. One night, Nikki told Michael that he had met some girls that wanted to sleep with him. In return, they would provide him with all the drugs he wanted. Nikki wanted Michael in on the deal, but later that afternoon, Michael called it off. Today, the building where the meeting took place, is covered in greens and it’s hard to see anything from the street. Sorry about the poor quality pictures. The house once belonged to the world famous magician Houdini, who also died in this very same location.

During one of my many trips to Los Angeles, I met Jack Valentine, who was the drummer of Mick Mars’ first band, Whitehorse. I got to come with him as he was doing an interview, and then he showed me something unbelievable. Jack Valentine was the first-ever drummer who played on an upside-down drumkit, and I got to see the piece with all its metal frames, rusting away outside. God damn, what a highly valued memory. Jack opened up about a lot of candid subjects. I loved this day.

In 2007, Nikki Sixx still had active business contacts going on at this office. After having lost about 50% of his belongings from the divorce with Donna D’Errico, he made some changes in his businesses, which now are a bit more ”private.” Nikki Sixx has a lot of business going on in Beverly Hills nowadays, a place he used to shun and want to stay as far away as possible from.

While Tommy Lee lived with Pamela Anderson, in the infamous house where their first son was born, the neighbor’s son tragically drowned, and where the spousal abuse that sent Tommy Lee to jail occured, this is where the Lee family did their grocery shopping. It’s located about 10 minutes away from house.

Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson’s infamous house. The location of the sex video, the birth of their first child, Methods of Mayhem recordings, and more. The house is now a rehab center that doesn’t allow any visits from the public. It’s located in Malibu.

After being married for some time, Pamela Anderson filed a report against Tommy Lee for spousal abuse. He was locked away in a downtown Los Angeles jail for a longer time. The Tommy Lee vs. Pamela Anderson trial was carried out in Malibu Courthouse.

During the Girls, Girls, Girls Tour, Tommy moved into this gated area where other rich and famous people reside. It wasn’t possible for non-residents to enter the gates, and it still isn’t. You have to show a card or have an agreement to visit one of the residents, who will be contacted for confirmation before you are let in.

In the summer of 2007, Tommy Lee bought a huge, multi-million dollar home behind the Malibu hills. The gated area housed many other famous people, and Tommy’s house was located in the back of the area that can’t be spotted from any highway or road. It’s a very nice area; kind of like a city within a city.

Tommy Lee’s bank where he takes care of his finances, with everything from his record company to his management. Here you can actually see Tommy come and go from time to time. I sadly can’t disclose on the exact location of the bank, as with many other locations mentioned here.

In the year 1997, as the world saw the return of Vince Neil as vocalist in Motley Crue, him along with the three other members held a press conference at a very random location. You pass the place, Reel Inn, a seafood restaurant, on your way along the Highway 1, from Los Angeles to Malibu. It has a seated outdoor area, and a lot of the pictures of the band that used to feature in magazines in the late 90’s were shot here. The place looks like a dump but hasn’t changed a bit since the old days. No one would have imagined that Motley Crue would have any business going on here, but the Reel Inn was the location where the world was introduced to the reunion of the original lineup of Motley Crue.

The yearly Vince Neil Golf Tournament is located a short car ride outside Malibu. It’s a great location, but there isn’t much to see except for the golf house and rolling greens. If you’re into golf, you would enjoy a swing here for sure.

A business location holding some of Nikki Sixx’s endeavors, like the Dragonfly clothing line and Americoma Records. Nikki started doing business here in 1997 and it ended in 2003.

In 1980s, Nikki lived in various places all around Los Angeles, and this building in Encino housed him for an unknown period of time. The house is located a bit away from the road, which is very quiet these days. I can’t say how it used to be in the 1980’s.

This is probably the most talked about house of any Motley Crue member. It used to belong to Mick Mars, and was very hard to track down. Everyone has heard about it, and it is featured in the first official video release of ”Uncensored” where Mick is interviewed in his red Corvette. At that time, Mick was married to and lived with one of the members of Nasty Habits. She later divorced Mick, after which he moved out of this house. Almost a castle, it’s sitting on top of a mountain, now a gated coommunity surrounded by other residents. Still to this day, you can drive all the way up to the gate, close to the house. It still has its original color. Amazing place.

There are a few locations or houses with a rather shrouded history. Not much is known about it. One of them is this house in Venice Beach. Mick Mars’ name was on the renting contract of this place, but it is not known whether he actually lived here or not. Today is a gated area for the wealthy and we weren’t able to go inside to go up to the front door.

Another house in extremely close proximity to the previous place. Mick Mars’ name was on the renting contract here too, but just as with the previous place, it is not known whether he lived here or not or rented it for a friend or family member. This is where the infamous incident where Mick drank and wandered out into the sea, convinced he was already dead when he returned to the shore, took place.

Mick Mars’ first Los Angeles based home. It remains the same, unchanged, to this day. With Motley Crue often performing and rehearsing in the Valley, Mick had a long way to drive. This was his first home after joining Motley Crue.

Another one of Mick Mars’ homes throughout the years. Could this have been the house he moved into after the 1990 divorce from Emi? It is located in a quiet area with luxury houses. Mick hasn’t disclosed a lot about this place.

There have been a lot of places that has had Mick’s name on the mailbox. This is where Mick lived around 2007. Driving up there, you can’t really see what the place is like, three quarters of the house is hidden by the mountain, looking in from the road. From what looks like, it has got to be an awesome place though.

The place that got Mick involved with Whitehorse. Pier 11, a 1970s night club, was frequently visited by Mick Mars to see the band. He was checking out the band’s guitar player so intensely, that Jack Valentine thought that Mick was gay. Funny. This was also the only place on earth that has had the names Motley Crue (Whitehorse) and Van Halen on the same bill. How cool is that? Back then, Van Halen was also just a band trying to make it. Cool. Today this place isn’t a live club anymore. It turned into a shoe store, but today they sell carpets.

There are plenty of reasons why I want to write a little bit about Jack Valentine here. He was a close friend of Mick’s, and the life and soul of the band Whitehorse as they were around. He has released a book about the Whitehorse days, it’s well worth a read. Here he showed us a box of old magazine clippings and photos. This was so exciting, thank you, Jack, for showing us.

The single most unique thing in Jack’s book is the Whitehorse/Motley Crue van. Jack still has it. It is still today as it was then; no changes to it have been made. It’s an amazing automobile; it should have been scrapped long ago but it still runs. This one took Mick on his way to becoming a well-known guitar player. Already then, people were talking about the awesome guitar player of Whitehorse. You can only imagine all the stories that have taken place inside this van.
